The department of Botany belongs to the families of Life science and Biology, others being Physiology and Zoology. The department is successfully performing its role as a complementary organ of the Life science like Zoology. Botany as a study of Plant life has been considered to be at par with Zoology, a study of animal life which is equivalent to biology, the study of life as a whole. The department got affiliation for Botany ( Hones.) course under V.U. from the session 2003 – 2004. Obviously, the department as a vital subject in environmental studies is performing its part in teaching Environment studies as a part of the new three years curriculum.
The department has full – time teacher having vast experience in research work. A number of young and highly qualified guest teachers have been appointed to impart quality education to students.
The students of the department have enough scope of studies. In addition to academic interest Botany has wide spread applications in Bio – technology, Genetics, Microbiology, Sericulture, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Bioinformatics etc. The subject has a maximum opportunity in teaching – profession and in advanced research.
