Affiliation of the Dept. of Geography is an important addition to the faculty of the college. Geography, as a discipline, with both Hones & General stream was sanctioned by th V.U. to our college in the year 2006. It has started as a self financing course. & the dept. is already equipped with necessary as well as modern relevant instruments like overhead projector & other survey materials. The departmental library is also preparing itself to meet the increasing demands of the students. At present, the Dept. has the intake capacity of 35 & 40 for honors & general courses respectively. The department has been functioning most satisfactorily under the dedicated and sincere services of a number of qualified young energetic guest teachers. Field study is a part of syllabus & students enjoy it both from academic & excursion viewpoint. A wall magazine has already been published by the students of the Dept. The dept. proposes to establish a seminar library & arrange seminars on a regular basis as part of its future plan.
After successful completion of graduation with Geography (Hones) a student may opt for entering into professional life through SSC or go for higher studies which open up several career options with numerous specialization in areas like cartography, survey , remote sensing ,urban & regional planning , travel & tourism etc., apart from taking teaching profession in colleges through NET or SLET.
Though the beginning is a bit late but progress is steady and encouraging & the college authority promises to develop this youngest dept. of the college to its fullest potentialities.
