There are two qualified and experienced teachers in the department of Hindi. Both of them have Ph.D. degree. Every one of them can teach any branch of Hindi literature as well as linguistic papers. Both of them are competent to teach the subject allotted to them as per syllabus of V.U.

The department generally admits the meritorious students in the subject by preparing merit lists as per University criteria. Kharagpur College is a co-education college. Both the boys and girls are admitted according to merit for both the general and reserved seats.

First department was following 2 tier (old) system syllabus pattern comprising three years course up to 2005-2006 session but the course have been revised according to 3 tier examination pattern for both the (Gen. & Hons.) subject by the Board of Studies (Hindi) of V.U. w.e.f. 2006-2007 session where both of the teachers are involved as the member of Board of Study. One of them is chairman of the U.G. Board of Studies (Hindi), V.U.

The success rate of the Honours students of the department is almost 100% in every year but the result of General Hindi varies from year to year to though success rate is never less than 90%. Some where general result dropout is 10%

Learning resources of the department is the rich library and subject references collected by the teachers from out side interaction between the lecturers and taught becomes very fruitful to grow some new out come about the topics of the subject.

Every year college authority allots a fat amount to the department to purchased subject books for (Hons. & Gen.) satisfaction of new needs grown as per syllabus and teachers demand for betterment of the students of the department.

Teachers distribute the clarified syllabus among them-selves and follow the modern techniques to solve the critical problems. The always ask the students to go through the lesson to be taught in the next class to make it easy and effective.

Teachers invite the students for interaction after the class. Students are invited to express their views on the topic fixed by the department for the better understanding of the topics in the supervision of the teachers.

The teachers of the department take part in the seminars organised by the department itself or any other department of languages. They have participated in a National Seminar organised by Department of Bengali of “Swadhinottar Katha Sahitya: Comparative Study of Bengali & Hindi”as a resource person too.

Teachers of this department help the college administration at the time of

i.  Admission of the students

ii.  Setting of question papers for the class test and General examination.

iii.  Preparation of College routine.

iv.  Invigilation duty in the examination hall.

v.  Evaluation of answer scripts.

vi.  Tabulation work.

vii.  Unitising of syllabus.

viii.  Regular monitoring of the students.

The teachers always co-operate the administration by participation in decision-making bodies like T.C., Academic Sub-Committee, Board of Studies etc. of their earliest convenience.

Rashtra Bhasha Hindi Sangrah is a course book of the faculty published by the teachers.

Teachers of the department hold the responsibilities of N.S.S., S.H.H. and counselling in I.G.N.O.U.

Teachers involve themselves in holding classes, Half yearly examination, Annual examination class tests and tutorial classes inviting students for interaction.

The department intends to open post graduate (Hindi), computer aided package and Internet study as well as a rich library of the department.

The Hindi Department is the only U.G. department of the college under V.U. to teach Hindi up to Honours level.

B.A. Hindi Honours

The intake capacity of Hindi Honours is 67.  The general or subsidiary subjects are History/Sociology/Economics, Philosophy, Political Science and English. It takes 3 years to complete the course. Part – I at the end of 1st Academic year,  Part – II at the end of 2nd Academic year and Part – III at the end of 3rd Academic year. Total of 800 marks in honours subjects, 600 in general papers and 150 in compulsory papers. 

B.A. Morning Sift

The subjects of B.A. General (Morning Shift) are (a) Bengali, English, Pol. Sc./Physical Education (b)Bengali, English, Philosophy (c) Bengali, English, History / Physical Education (d) Bengali, English, Economics / Physical Education (e) Bengali, Pol. Sc., Philosophy (f) Bengali, Pol. Sc., History/ Physical Education (g) Bengali Pol. Sc. Economics/ Physical Education (h) Bengali, Philosophy, Economics (i) English, Philosophy, Economics (j) English, Pol. Sc., History/ Physical Education (k) English, Pol. Sc., Economics/ Physical Education (l) Bengali, Philosophy, History (m) English, Philosophy, History (n) English, Pol. Sc., Philosophy (o) Pol. Sc., Philosophy, Economics (p) Pol. Sc., Philosophy, History. However Mathematics is not allowed with Bengali/Hindi. It takes 3 years to complete the course. Part – I at the end of 1st Academic year,  Part – II at the end of 2nd Academic year and Part – III at the end of 3rd Academic year. Regarding marks total of 300 marks in Part-I, 600 marks in Part-II and 450 in part-III of which 150 are from compulsory subjects.
