The Department of Computer Science is the oldest departments for 3-Year General with Computer Science in the college. From its establishment in the year 1995 the Department offered under-graduate Pass Course till date. In the year 2017 BCA Honours course was introduced. Now BCA Honours program was added with Major and Minor courses under the New Education Policy (CCFUP-NEP2020).

The Computer Science and BCA Department offers BCA Honours with computing, information technology and software design and application related study programs.

The department helps develop expertise in computing with a strong programming focus. The project-based course, hands-on approach will aid in developing the technical skills required for a successful career in the software industry.

The department is committed to providing students with very good knowledge about computer science education and preparing them for successful careers in this exciting field.

During COVID -19 Lockdown period the department strives hard to excel in continuing teaching-learning and evaluation process through online mode (Google Meet), the students of the department were kept in touch through emails, WhatsApp or phone and were advised to keep themselves healthy and to stay connected with the faculty members in case of any difficulty or requirement.

The department has its own Computer Software & Hardware Laboratory. Faculty members and students of the department can access Internet through Wi-Fi and LAN connection provided in the Computer Lab.

A mentor-mentee system has been introduced in the department to monitor academic enhancement and provide a support system to guide and motivate the mentees continuously.

Faculty members of the department always motivate and inspire the students to prepare themselves adequately for good results and higher studies.

The Govt. of India notified National Education Policy (NEP) on 29 July, 2020 and subsequently UGC developed Curriculum & Credit Framework for UG Programmes (CCFUP) based on NEP. As per directives of the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal for implementation of CCFUP, the Vidyasagar University has designed new CCFUP in Semester mode for various disciplines w.e.f. the Academic Session 2023 -2024.

The new Curriculum based on CCFUP has emphasized on continuous learning and evaluation, holistic education by allowing students to experience multidisciplinary and Value Added courses through a 3-Year or 4-Year Undergraduate programmes Honours with Research with flexible degree having multiple entry and exit options. The student is provided abundant opportunities during the programme of study to accumulate credits by opting for Major Courses, Minor Courses, Multidisciplinary Courses, Ability Enhancement Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses and Value Added Courses under various disciplines.

This system aims to strengthen the academic potential of the student as it provides flexibility in the choice of courses offered beyond the framework of the respective disciplines of study
